Back in the day, I worked at Williams Sonoma, where I helped people create, build, and shop for wedding registries on a daily basis! I know my wedding registries and am excited to share some of the best wedding registry tips with you so that you can get more of what you need… so that you don’t have to buy it yourself down the road!

Without further ado, here are my tried and tested wedding registry tips that will guarantee purchases!

Wedding Registry Tip #1: Register at 2-3 places MAX

I get it- there are SO many choices on where to register, so it’s really tempting to register at a bunch of places. But I promise you, this WILL overwhelm your guests. Stick to 2-3 places!

If I were to register today, I would choose Amazon, Pottery Barn, and a Honeyfund! But that is just my personal preference. Other common registries include Crate & Barrel, Target, Williams Sonoma, Etsy (yes they have wedding registries!), and so much more.

Pro Tip: When considering a universal wedding registry like The Knot or Zola, make sure to recognize the registry completion incentives.

Many wedding registries offer these, such as free pans when your guests purchase X amount. If you go the universal wedding registry route instead of individually registering with stores, you may be missing out on incentives. Which is okay if that is something you don’t care about!! This is just something to keep in mind.

Tip #2 :Take Advantage of “Group Gifting” or “Most Wanted” For Big Ticket Gifts

Amazon wedding registry and most universal wedding registries like Zola offer this feature. This is great because it shows your guests #1 what you reallyy want, and #2 gives them the idea to go in on a bigger gift with some friends.

On an Amazon wedding registry, group gifting works by allowing your guests to contribute however much money they want toward a specific gift and then publicly showing how much is still needed for you to get that gift. Don’t worry if you don’t end up getting the full amount needed for the gift. If this happens, Amazon will just give you the amount contributed in the form of an Amazon giftcard!

Lastly, even if your guests don’t use the group gifting feature, it may give them the idea to text a couple of their friends and go in on that gift together – I know I have done that!

Tip #3: Write Captions Under Gifts You Really Want (Or Even Every Gift!)

This wedding registry tip is all about helping your guests envision you LOVING that gift you gave them. This is especially helpful for the older crowd that is more tempted to instead “buy something that made them think of you”. This feature is unique to an Amazon wedding registry.

I have included an example below of a typical wedding registry item with a caption that would go perfectly:

Nespresso Vertuo

We both LOVE coffee and have been wanting a Nespresso machine for years! They make the best cups of coffee and are so quick and easy for those busy work mornings when we are running out of the house.

Tip #4: Monitor Your Registry For Out Of Stock Items

Truly, I can not tell you how many times I have gone on someone’s wedding registry and half of the items are showing as out of stock. This is an important reminder that the work isn’t done once you put an item on your registry!

It is super important to monitor the items you chose. If an item is showing as out of stock, see if there’s a duplicate listing. However, if it isn’t and it’s something you really want, it’s okay to leave it on there as it will probably be restocked sooner than later, but if there is another listing with the same product/ price, make sure to go ahead and add that item instead.

If an item you don’t need is out of stock, take it off the registry or look for another similar item that could replace it.

Tip #5: Limit The Number Of Items On Your Registries

Ever heard of the study about how too many ice cream flavors can actually leave a customer more dissatisfied with their choice than if they had just a few options to choose from? The same thing goes with your guests choosing a gift for you.

If you have hundreds of options for them to choose from, they will likely not be as confident in their choice! While you’re probably thinking you’re helping them out by giving them tons of options, this could actually have the opposite effect and lead to them abandoning cart.

Only register for the items you actually need. Don’t waste your time adding items just to have more! If you find yourself in this position, I highly recommend incorporating a cash fund.

BONUS – Cash Fund Tip

I love cash funds! If you are utilizing a cash fund for your wedding registry, I recommend getting specific with what the money will be used for! Again, this is all about painting a picture and getting your guests excited about their gift for you.
